Participants will have an opportunity to develop a working knowledge of pedagogical stances, instructional approaches, methods, and materials for the teaching of writing to children and young adolescents. Participants will apply the knowledge gained, using best practices and current research in order to develop individual goals for writers and coach writers using prompts aligned to strategies. Participants will identify appropriate interventions for every writer based on data gathered from numerous resources including the IEP. As a result of this learning, participants will be able to describe the literacy needs of diverse learners, know how to adapt writing instruction to meet those needs, select and plan appropriate writing lessons for elementary students, and develop or utilize a variety of writing strategies to use with students.
