Engaging Students in the Investigative Practices Book Study

In the first of this three-course series focused on the Science and Engineering Practices of the Iowa Core Science Standards (NGSS), participants will explore the Investigating Practices which include: Asking Questions and Defining Problems, Planning and Carrying Out Investigations, and Using Mathematical and Computational Thinking. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of these practices, connect to instructional strategies and protocols to support students as they engage in these practices, and practice implementing them through a Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle.

Dates: Aug. 8-Nov. 15

  • 1st session: Aug. 8 or 9 from 4-5pm (you choose one session that fits your schedule).

  • 2nd session: Sept. 13 from 4-5:30 pm

  • 3rd session: Oct. 4 from 4-5:30 pm

  • 4th session: Oct. 25 from 4-5:30 pm

  • 5th session: Nov. 15 from 4-5:30 pm
