What are the requirements to offer Teen MHFA in my high school?

The requirements to offer Teen MHFA in your high school are:

  • At least 10% of your staff must be trained in YMHFA (more is preferred)
  • You must train every student at the designated grade level (10th, 11th or 12th grade)
  • The classroom where Teen MHFA is being taught must have 2 adults present, one trained as a certified Teen MHFA trainer
  • Have a mental health professional available while the course is being taught
  • A protocol for responding to participants in distress
  • At the end of each class, an exit ticket must be administered and reviewed

For the 2020-2021 school year,  Prairie Lakes AEA has seven schools offering Teen MHFA to at least one grade level (10,11,or 12) at their high school.  If you would like to join this cohort of schools offering Teen MHFA or want more information on how to offer Teen MHFA in your high school, contact Kim Bodholdt, MHFA Coordinator at kbodholdt@plaea.org.

ASK Resource Center hosts Together We Can conference

Together We Can (TWC) is the annual conference hosted by the ASK Resource Center. In response to video fatigue, the TWC Conference Partners are unpacking this year's conference offerings. Join engaging Keynote Sessions that represent the usual conference tracks. Experience fun virtual activities for the kids (and the whole family) to replace the childcare activities. Enjoy a gift box delivered right to your door in place of the exhibitor fair.

As always, the TWC Conference is FREE to attend. Attend one "Unpacked" 2021 TWC Event, or attend them all!

Learn more about the conference at this link.

LEGO Education kits available for check out

From Torrey Proctor, PLAEA Instructional Technology Consultant

LEGO Education kits have always been in my top 3 favorite STEM materials to teach with. The lessons provided with the kits give students opportunities to collaborate with peers, be creativity problem solvers, and build functional complex devices that are on par with their abilities.  LEGO Education kits are also fun! Prairie Lakes AEA has two kits available for checkout: BricQ Motion Essential (K-5th) and BricQ Motion Prime (6-8).

LEGO Education BricQ Motion Essential (Lending Library #012728)

K-5th students will discover physical science in action with the LEGO BriQ Motion Essential Kit. Fourteen standard aligned lesson plans with assessments, video, and worksheets, and math and language arts extensions are included with the kit. Each lesson runs 30-45 minutes long, in addition to extension activities that could go longer if needed. Two students per kit is the ideal ratio. Check this item out to be used as a classroom center, for teacher training, or to advocate the purchase of class sets for your school.

LEGO Education BricQ Motion Prime (Lending Library #012730)

6-8th students will discover physical science in action within a sports context with the LEGO BriQ Motion Prime Kit. Eight standard aligned lesson plans with assessments, video, worksheets, and math and language arts extensions are included with the kit. Each lesson runs 45 minutes long, in addition to extension activities that could go longer if needed. Two students per kit is the ideal ratio. Check this item out to be used as a classroom center, for teacher training, or to advocate the purchase of class sets for your school.
