Early Childhood Literacy support at Prairie Lakes AEA

The 230-member team at Prairie Lakes AEA includes two Early Childhood Consultants with responsibilities and expertise in early literacy. The essential responsibilities of Early Childhood Consultants are to support all school sites that have early childhood programs with the effective implementation of:

  • Curriculum and effective instructional practices
  • Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards 
  • Iowa Early Learning Standards
  • Assessment (Teaching Strategies GOLD and IGDIs; data analysis)
  • Providing quality professional development for early childhood teachers and para's
  • Support transition to kindergarten processes and vertical alignment across all early childhood settings within the district and community partners
  • Increasing student achievement
  • Collaborate across support teams and with the Iowa Department of Education to build leadership for early childhood programs

Early Childhood Consultants support instructional staff to provide a continuum of serves to meet students' needs through monitoring, coaching and support.
