Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trainings dates & details
As we all continue to adjust our plans to provide safe environments for continued learning and professional development, our CPI team at Prairie Lakes AEA has revised how the fall Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trainings will be held and supported.
Rather than bringing groups of educators from our area districts to one location for full-day trainings and refresher courses, we will be hosting half-day regional trainings via zoom to cover the verbal de-escalation, intervention, and postvention units. To cover the physical intervention skills and complete the testing component of the training, we will schedule times to visit each district’s team the following month. This will provide as safe a way as possible to ensure the teams are confident in their approaches to de-escalate without the need for physical intervention, and then how to physically intervene with the least amount of risk to both the employee and student. We will also be able to fully support the postvention unit to prevent future needs for de-escalation and crisis intervention.
It is important to note that we will not be scheduling separate ½ day refresher training sessions with this change in formatting. Those needing a refresher will attend with those completing the initial training, but as long as their training has not yet expired they should register for the refresher and the school will be invoiced at the refresher fee.
