Classes Offered for New Special Education Teachers
A class for new special education teachers (including mid-year hires for the 18-19 school year) is being developed as a means to support both the new special education teachers and AEA staff next year. By offering a year-long class, the special education teachers can receive additional instruction and supports as they navigate their first experiences with conducting assessments, documentation of special education services, and preparation for IEP meetings. By having additional supports in place for the new teachers, an additional benefit would be retention of these teachers within the field of special education.
Day 1 content will be logging onto the IDEA system (web IEP), basic special education procedures, reading and understanding IEPs on their rosters, and preparing for the new school year. The content for the remaining dates includes continued work with IEPs, learning more about parent-friendly IEP meetings from the Family Educator Partner Consultants, transition, reading, behavior, significant disabilities, assistive technology, and media resources.
All trainings will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Lunch will be on your own (all classes). Anyone attending the training MUST register. Click here to register.
Participants should have their school email address enabled and are asked to bring a laptop to the training.
