State Science Module 1 & 2 options
After the Science Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education in August of 2015, all Iowa AEAs began offering Module 1, an overview of Iowa’s new science standards. Over the past year, there have been more than 20 workshops in PLAEA for over 500 teachers through area-wide offerings and in-district trainings. All workshops have been and will be advertised in this newsletter.
For teachers, administrators, or instructional coaches needing Module 1, this is now offered as a free state-wide online overview, available through AEA PD Online. Once you have an account and are into the system, search for “science standards” in the catalog. It is estimated to take 3 hours to complete this online version, and it is recommended to work through it collaboratively. Attending an overview workshop or completing the online module is a prerequisite for the learning in Module 2 so participants feel confident in their foundational understanding of the structure and intent of the standards.
For teachers, administrators or instructional coaches needing Module 2: A 1-credit class being offered in Pocahontas on June 8-9 from 8:30-4:30 each day. If interested, register through the PLAEA online course catalog for #7867: Understanding the Vision for Iowa Core Science.
Module 2 will also be offered this fall at the Fort Dodge AEA from 8:30-3:30 on Sep. 15 & 29. Interested participants can register here:
