Hanover Research Results from the Iowa AEA 2018 Survey

Hanover Research, a global market research and analytics firm, recently released results of an independent survey of Iowa’s educators regarding the services of Iowa’s Area Education Agency (AEA) system.

Over 8,000 responses were generated from an invitation to general education teachers, special education teachers, superintendents, principals, and other professional staff working in more than 300 public schools and over 100 non-public schools. The data was collected over a period in the late fall of 2018.

Prairie Lakes AEA had 421 respondents fill out the survey. Key findings of the Prairie Lakes AEA survey revealed that educators are quite pleased with AEA services overall in the areas of special education; educational services; and instructional, media, and technology. Some services received well over 90 percent customer satisfaction rates, including speech-language services; early childhood special education services; audiology/hearing services; support for science, teacher-librarians, teacher leadership, and school improvement; digital resources; implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports; PreK-12 instructional materials, books and other resources for check-out; basic print services and support for Special Education, including due process, procedures, headcount, and rules.

Two areas of growth for PLAEA services indicated by the survey were behavioral help supports and mental health services, which are growing concerns in schools statewide.  This is not a surprise to any of us with the changing landscape of the children, families and educators we serve, and is certainly not limited to PLAEA in our statewide system.

Please feel free to review the Hanover Research executive summary which is available for download on this page.

Thanks to those of you who responded to the survey. We look forward to our continued partnerships to support you, and the children and families who receive our services.

Sincerely,

Jeff Herzberg, Chief Administrator
