What is Teen Mental Health First Aid?

During the month of April watch for information on Teen MHFA and how to offer this program in your school.

What is Teen MHFA? Teen MHFA is a curriculum that teaches high school students a 5 step process to help their friends who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.  The curriculum teaches a focus on the patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that show there might be a MH challenge rather than focusing on specific illnesses.  The training gives students the skills to have supportive conversations with their friends and get a responsible and trusted adult to take over as necessary.  The Teen MHFA facilitator is typically a school employee who facilitates the curriculum to students in 10th, 11th or 12th grades as a push in to another class.  There are 6 sessions in the Teen MHFA curriculum.
