CGI training offered in June
Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) will be offered from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 26-29 at the PLAEA office in Pocahontas. This will be the first four days of training. Dates for the three additional days will be decided during this training.
School teams of at least three teachers comprised of the following: math teachers of kindergarten, first, second and third grade classrooms, and elementary special education teachers. For those districts beginning CGI, the principal or curriculum coordinator should attend as a fourth team member.
- Analyze story problems and number sentences to determine their mathematical demands and recognize students’ responses in terms of cognitive development;
- Assess students’ thinking and design problems that will develop students’ understanding of concepts and skills;
- Facilitate discussions that provide a window into children’s thinking, strengthen children’s ability to reason about arithmetic, and build their capacity for algebraic reasoning.
