Science + Literacy = Better Together Elementary Iowa Core Science Module 4
The stage will be set as participants don their student-learner hats and are immersed in a three-dimensional storyline that uses literacy strategies to support students figuring out applicable Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI) through Science and Engineering Practices (SEP) in order to understand a Crosscutting Concept (CCC).
We will compare content and disciplinary literacy and consider what it means to view like a scientist. Next, we will examine what it means to write, talk, and listen like a scientist and how we can support and cultivate these characteristics in our elementary scientists to meet both the Iowa Core Literacy AND Science standards.
In-district follow-up will be provided in the fall to support educators in the implementation of science lessons/unit developed during the face-to-face sessions in June.
