Registration Open for Peer Mediated Skills Learning Camp!
What is the Peer Mediated Skills Learning Camp?
Ron Roybal (University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education) will facilitate two fun and engaging days for PLAEA Early Childhood Teachers, Para's and Associates, and Administrators! Ron prides his work in the effectiveness of social emotional skills through the LEAP project and presents with the Center for Social Emotional Supports for Early Learning. He has extensive experience in inclusive classroom settings as a teacher and coach for children with special needs, and children at risk or with challenging behaviors.
What will the two days of learning focus on:
Day 1: Peer mediated strategies for students in an inclusive classroom: Learn five instructional strategies to establish peer routines within typically developing children and those with autism. These five evidenced based classroom practices (a.k.a peer mediated strategies) promote inclusion, social / emotional competency, and reinforces active engagement for all students. Ron will explicitly instruct how to teach with video observations and peer practice. Finally, practitioners will learn how to implement the strategies for all students as well as an intervention approach.
Day 2: Routines within Routines (Make and Take during the PM) - participants will examine essential elements to effective routines within routines necessary to promote engagement and participation of all children. Ron will demonstrate fun and effective strategies for reducing challenging behaviors, increasing engagement and learning during large group activities with the use of visual supports. Circle and story times will be used to highlight routines through the use of videos, photos and interactive participation.
