Youth Mental Health First Aid certification offered
Prairie Lakes AEA, in partnership with the Fort Dodge Community District, is excited to offer an opportunity to become certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. This class is for all teachers so if possible, please send to all of your staff. A decision will be made by Monday as to whether there are enough participants for the March 27 class.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training course is designed for lay people to learn methods of assisting a young person who may be in the early stages of developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. This is designed for members of the public who have frequent contact with you and young adults, such as parent, school staff, sports coaches, and youth workers / volunteers. It is most relevant when it is first apparent to an adult that a youth or young adult is exhibiting signs of emotional, behaviors, or mental health challenges. It can also provide useful information on how to assist a young person who has had long term mental health challenges or a history of a serious mental disorder.
The cost of the training is $10 which includes lunch and materials necessary to provide the training.
Pending 15 registrants, this eight-hour course on the following dates:
- March 27: 8am-4pm in Fort Dodge
- April 24: 8am-4pm in Storm Lake
- May 11: 8am-4pm at a location TBD
