Sarah Brown Wessling leads Teaching Transparently workshop
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March 25-26, 2019 at Buena Vista University (Siebens Forum, DCC Multiple Purpose Room) in Storm Lake.
This two-day learning experience introduces teachers and leaders to role and purpose of teacher leadership when it grows from classroom teachers. With the belief that teacher leadership flourishes when traditional hierarchies are flattened, these two days takes participants through a series of experiences in which they construct an understanding about model teachers and teacher leadership using footholds like beginner’s mindset, problem of practice, observing for learning and reflective discourse. Participants can come in teams or individually as we will look at specific teacher leadership roles as well as the whole teacher leadership system.
- Define and embody the role of the model or mentor teacher.
- Learn to observe instruction in order to practice and discuss deliberate pedagogy.
- Create and implement a personal growth plan to be used as the basis for learning to teach transparently.
- Use careful reflective practices to enhance systematic progress.
Cost is $125 registration fee for materials, and $17 for lunch ($8.50 per day) for a total of $142. Here is the link to the registration.
