Celebrating the 19th amendment
From Christine Sturgeon, PLAEA Teacher Librarian.
2020 marks the 100th anniversary since the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. (Yet 2019 is the 150th anniversary of Wyoming giving women the vote!) The digital resources offered through Iowa's AEAs have a lot to say on the topic, such as Gale, American History in Video, Britannica, to name a few. My favorites come from Learn360, which has this 28 second video of President Warren Harding meeting with women suffragists in 1919, and this five-minute cartoon about Susan B. Anthony.
On that topic, check out this curriculum from the nonprofit, Hard Won, Not Done. It's a collaboration of ISEA, AAUW, Drake University, ISU, U of Iowa, UNI, and more. I have the lesson plans printed and bound and can share with you (if you prefer to read in print), but it's all available for free online and it includes many links so you'll definitely want to check it out online. This would be great to share with your social studies teachers.
